Last commit: [15cc6cc9] Exit@claudiux: Update es.po (#7823)

Restart Cinnamon, turn off the screen, lock the screen, switch users, log out, suspend, hibernate, reboot or shut down the computer

README

Close

Exit

Summary

This is a simple, configurable applet for displaying an Exit menu on your panel.

Available Menu options

  • Restart Cinnamon
  • Screen Off
  • Lock Screen
  • Switch user
  • Log Out
  • Suspend
  • Hibernate
  • Restart
  • Shut Down

Settings

Settings are accessed by selecting Configure... from this applet's contextual menu. (Right-click)

General tab

  • You can choose which options appear in this applet menu.

  • Please note that some options may be managed by the system, which has priority; if this is the case, you won't be able to see them.

Shortcuts tab

  • You can choose shortcuts to open the menu.

  • You can choose shortcuts to turn screen On/Off. Using the hardware method, the mouse is disabled for the number of seconds you have chosen when the screen is turned Off; it is always reactivated when the screen is turned On. Using the software method, the mouse is never disabled. Moving the mouse pointer turns On the screen.

  • You can choose the keys used to select certain options when the menu is open.

  • A message reminds you of the keys already used.

  • The “Apply these keys to the menu” button must be clicked after each change.

  • A "Reset to default keys" button is available.

Options tab

  • Whether or not to display an OSD while Cinnamon is restarting.

  • Whether or not to vertically maximize the Settings window, next time.

System lock-down

Use dconf-editor (install it using your package manager) and go to /org/cinnamon/desktop/lockdown/.

You get the list of locks.

These include disable-lock-screen, disable-log-out and disable-switching-user. Their default value is false. If their value is true, then the corresponding option will not appear in the menu and cannot be configured in this applet's settings.

Wayland

For now, these menu options are not available using a wayland session:

  • Restart Cinnamon
  • Screen Off
  • Lock Screen
  • Switch User

So you can't see them in this applet's settings.

Log Out modes

There are three Log Out modes:

  • With confirmation: Opens a window to confirm or cancel the disconnection.
  • Without confirmation.
  • Force: Lets you log out while ignoring inhibitors. Useful when several sessions are open.

Select your preferred mode in the settings (since version 1.1.0).

v1.8.3 is here. It adds the option "Screen On/Off with Lock feature" to the menu and its shortcut to the settings. Enjoy it!

Hi claudiux, even if shortcuts is a nice idea, I liked the clean popup menu before (without shortcuts). Would you be so kind to implement an option to turn them off visually? I mean "Reboot [R]" -> "Reboot". If I delete them in the settings and click "apply", they're added again. Otherwise I would create my own local version as workaround. Thanks!

Hi @Mintulix, OK, I'll make them optional. Please wait until the next version.

This is almost exactly what I was trying to figure out how to do myself, but is there any way to add shortcuts? I'm trying to emulate my Windows muscle memory for shortcut to open menu and then u/s/r to select power options. This is still by far the closest thing to what I want that I've found and I'll happily use it as is, but it never hurts to ask!

Use shortcuts... Good idea. Even if they won't be identical to yours, you can choose them yourself. Please wait for the next version.

Sounds good! I know there's native shortcuts to directly shut down/suspend/restart, but I like having the extra buffer of a shortcut to open a menu in between so I can still just quickly use my keyboard but avoid accidentally immediately triggering a power option on a single shortcut. I've spent the past 2 days trying to figure out a solution on my own so I am more than happy to wait a bit.

Please try v1.7.0. There is a new “Shortcuts” tab in the settings of this applet that should suit your needs.

Hibernate didn't work. That's pretty much the only reason I wanted to use this.

Try with the command: `systemctl hibernate` Which output?

v1.3.0 is here. New option: Screen Off. Also you can set the duration of deactivation of the mouse to prevent the screen to turning on too soon after turning it off.

v1.1.0 is here. "Log Out Mode" option added to settings. From now, the user can choose to log out with or without confirmation, or to force log out (useful when several sessions are open). Updated .pot and fr.po files. Enjoy!
